Plan Fund Change Mines 401a Effective 5-13-25

Mines does not participate in the Social Security program. In lieu of Social Security, most non-student employees must enroll in either the Mines Defined Contribution Plan (MDCP)  as of 2026 the employee contribution is set to 11% and Mines’ employer contribution is set at 12% or the Colorado Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) as of 2026 the employee contribution is set to 11% and Mines’ employer contribution is set at 21.65%. Each plan has specific eligibility requirements.

If you had twelve months or more of PERA eligibility prior to your new position at Mines, and participated in the DB plan, you may be eligible to continue in PERA.  Please email maps@mines.edu to inquire about your eligibility.

Mines Defined Contribution Plan (MDCP)

Employees not eligible for PERA, or who choose to leave PERA, will be enrolled in the MDCP.  Employees and Mines will both make fixed contributions to the plan. Employees have a variety of independent investment options to choose from.  Corebridge Financial is our MDCP administrator.  Recordkeeping services and free financial advising are provided through Corebridge.
